About Us
The Bits 'n Pieces Story
Julie Hale started her quilting store as a “Quiet Craft” called Calico World in a corner of her mother’s store, Wicker World, in 1979. Back then, it was difficult to find enough fabric to fill the corner. But that changed in the early 80’s, and the store outgrew its space, eventually becoming the Bits ‘n Pieces we know and love today.
The store is located in a unique ten sided building in Wayne, Mi, which holds a tremendous variety of fabric, thread, patterns, books, kits and accessories and BERNINA sewing machines to fill your quilting and embroidery needs.
You’ll find a wide range of 100% cotton quilting fabrics at Bits ‘n Pieces, including batiks, civil war reproductions, fresh modern prints, children’s fabrics, and flannels. We carry Holiday fabric year round, so you can start your projects any time. We carry fabric from Benartex, Henry Glass, Marcus Brothers, Michael Miller, Moda, Red Rooster, Robert Kaufman, and more.
We have thread in a rainbow of colors and weights, from Aurifil, Isacord, Mettler, Superior and others.
You’ll find patterns from Smith Street Designs, as well as our own Bits ‘n Pieces patterns designed by Julie Hale. We have lots of books full of patterns too, to help you make everything from table runners to bed size quilts, to doll clothes and pot holders, using yardage, scraps, or precuts (jelly rolls, charm packs, and more.)
If you’d prefer to work with a kit, we have those too! No matter your skill level, beginner to advanced, you’ll be able to find something to make, with the fabric chosen and ready to go!
What We Offer
When it comes time to quilt your creation, we carry Quilter’s Dream batting. If you’d rather “quilt by check” we offer Quilting Services, too.
Need accessories for your quilting and embroidery? We have lots, from rulers by Creative Grid and Quilter’s Rule to feet for your BERNINA machines.
If you like embroidery, we have a large selection of designs, multi-formatted for all makes and models of home Embroidery Machines. We carry designs from Smith Street Designs, Lunch Box Quilts, and Claudia’s Creations, among others.
If you aren’t sure what you want to make, we have loads of samples and examples! Come take a look, and let us inspire you.
Friendly, Knowledgeable Staff
Our staff will be delighted to help you when you come to our store. All of them are deeply knowledgeable about everything from quilting and embroidery to the operation of the many BERNINA sewing, quilting, and embroidery machines. If you have questions, they have the answers! Come in and meet them!
Hours of Operation
